The Olympic Torch comes to Northampton

Finally it’s Northampton’s turn to live the Olympic dream and welcome the Torch through the town on Monday.

Thousands are expected to join in with the celebrations and become part of history as 15 Torchbearers flaunt the flame from one end of the town to the other.

Starting at 10.20am (time subject to change) the Torch will arrive at Weedon Road (near Gambrel Road) before heading to: St James Road, St. Peter’s Way, Bridge Street, Drapery, Market Square, Abington Street, St. Giles Street, Guildhall Road, St. John’s Street and Victoria Promenade before finishing at Becket’s Park.

The Torch is expected to leave Becket’s Park at around 11.10am to continue on its travels to Leicester for day 45.

Councillor David Mackintosh, Leader of Northampton Borough Council, said that he hoped people from across Northampton would line the streets as and welcome the torch as it moves through the town.

He added: “I’m really pleased our town will have the honour of hosting the Olympic Torch. Now that people can see exactly where the Flame will be carried, it will help bring the event to life and encourage people to get involved in this once-in-a-lifetime event.”

On its exciting 70 day journey throughout the UK, the Olympic Torch will come within an hour of 95% of the people in the UK, passing through more than 1,000 town, cities and villages.

An average of 115 Torchbearers a day will carry the Olympic Flame during its 8,000 mile journey ahead of the Olympic Opening Ceremony in London, signifying the official start of the 2012 Olympic Games.

The Olympic Torch Relay is going to massively increase footfall in the town centre and Wallace Hind are playing their part towards maximising benefits to the local economy. Move over Usain Bolt, Wallace Hind are here…

On Wednesday 21st March, staff at Wallace Hind Selection LLP arranged and competed in a Mini Olympics Event to raise money for Sport Relief.

Wallace Hind usually buy their staff lunch on a Wednesday, however, this week there were some hungry tums as the staff took part in a mini Olympics and the money was instead donated to Sports Relief.

Events included Wrong Handed Putting, Skittles, Fishing, Skipping and Keepie Uppie; raising £100 for the worthy cause. There was a tie in the golf challenge which was very competitive as there are many golfers in the office! A game of twister was used to decide the winner!

Sport Relief is a great charity that brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. The money raised is spent by Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives, both at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. It goes a long way too. From transforming the lives of people in the UK’s most disadvantaged communities, or those living with poor mental or physical health, to protecting street children and providing life-saving healthcare abroad. Wallace Hind would also like to take the opportunity and are delighted to welcome Philip Monkman to our team – Philip Monkman is an experienced recruiter of 11 years and has worked for some of the UK’s most recognised contingency recruitment organisations. With a background in finding the very best senior talent for some of the UK and Europe’s Leading brands, he was keen to find a business that genuinely differentiates its service levels from the rest of the market place. With experience of managing both single and multiple recruitment campaigns he was blown away by the in-depth professionalism, market information, transparent communication and genuine consultation that the Wallace Hind process encourages throughout a project.
